Oldtraditions like the famous rumble were what kept the spirit alive for new students here at BloomingtonHigh School South, as well as some parents and younger kids in the community that just could not stayaway from the nights event.Katherine Steinmetz knew a thing or two about bringing school spirit, as she was the schoolmascot for the big South vs. North football game. A friend told me that I would be a good as themascot since I have so much spirit. Im always dressed up for spirit days and Im pumped up. Ivealways wanted to be a mascot for anything and cheer on the crowd, said the senior. Enthusiasm islinked with, but not limited to school sports. People seem to like who I am, and they like my spirit,said SteinmetzSpirit existed for other things, not just sports. I just like the dancing but not the cheering andthe yelling, said freshman pom squad member Kelsey Shaffer. I knew that South Poms was one of thebest in the nation because they always get first. Everyone cares a lot about what they do, and I wantedto be a part of that. Its pretty time consuming, because we practice everyday for three hours, but I alsoget to go to all the games and perform at halftime, said Shaffer.Perhaps the students with the most school spirit and enthusiasm were the Panther Cheerleaders.A lot of the stuff we do is stuff outside of the games. Actually, cheering is only half of it, but I knewthat I would want to cheer at any school that I went to, said freshman cheerleader Kiley Miller.Showing spirit not only helped to pump up the crowd, but it showed support for the teamand ensured the legacy of excellence at South. Whether the spirit be on the court or field, or in theclassroom, or just in the halls, spirit always played right alongside the team.Dont worry, Panther Pack, Souths got your back.<~) 0»,SpiritStudent Life
