Randy Mayfinishes hiscareer 84-0In three years as a varsity wrestler,Randy May compiled a record of 84-0and earned three state championships.As a sophomore, May compiled arecord of 25-0, including his first statechampionship at 98 pounds. His junior year at 105 pounds, he finishedthe season 28-0. In the morninground of the state tournament, hedefeated Tom Gaskins of CenterGrove, 4-3 in overtime, and went onto win his second state championship.Now the challenge was to complete three years of high school wrestling undefeated. He completed theregular season without a loss andwon sectional and regional titles eas-ily.On the afternoon of semi-state, hefaced Gaskins again. In a longawaited rematch, May proved hisgreatness by destroying Gaskins 11 -4. He advanced to the state, where hetook his third championship, winningin the finals by a fall. On the winnersstand he received a well deservedstanding ovation from the 7000 fansat Southport.In the words of Coach Kay Hutsell,Randy is the finest wrestler Ivecoached in 20 years; and thatincludes some great ones along theway. Randy May showed the pride,desire, mental attitude, and behaviorof a champion.
