On any given day, the teachers at South were doing allkinds of creative things in class to help students learn and engage them more.Sophomore Tony Sainz said creative teachers like Mrs. Teresa Tresslar, Family andConsumer Sciences, made the class fun. You dont realize youre learning. Senior KaitieDeLaCruz added, She did a lot of hands-on activites and did not lecture, but kept thestudents involved.One way that teachers made learning fun was with games. Senior Aaron Walker, who tookMr. Matt Hoaglands European History class, said, Mr. Hoagland used excellent games.Games so excellent, excellent doesnt describe it!There are many creative teachers at South whose classes were enjoyed by the students,some of which junior Noah Woodland thought included Mr. Janis Berzins, math, Mr. DanCombs, social studies, and Mrs. Reeves, business. Mr. Combs is just cool. Hes liberal, andhe encourages people to cross the social boundaries of certain stereotypes, Woodlandsaid.Creative teachers got to know their students so they knew what motivated them. JuniorMary McKeen said, Ms. Witten is a good example of this. She created a friendlyenvironment and let us know what was goingon in her life, and she wanted to know whatwas up in ours. Woodland added thatReeves, was the first teacher Ive ever hadwho has fully appreciated my potential in theareas of web and graphics design.English teacher Mrs. Sheila McDermott-Sipe(right) finishes an inflatable obstacle coursebrought to South by the Marines.
