Description: Whats yourStudy Style?Matt Vlasmanby Jessee HahnWhether it was becauseof an odd personal quirk orindividual taste, studentsstudy habits contained amixture of certain music, hangouts, bookstores and nature. From thechildrens section at Borders bookstore with a cafe latte and Discman, tothe remote corners of the Monroe County Public Library, students foundoriginal and creative spots to settle down and study. With many stresses arising in the spring, some people were forced tomake extra time to fit in their homework amid activities. Searching for anyspare moment they could find, some were forced to cut their sleep timeshort and wake up in the wee hours of the morning to finish the last oftheir assignments. On calculus exam days, before school I usually meet Laura Barnes atHowies to do some last minute studying ... it seems to work well becauseonce I got a 100 percent on a test, junior Peter Augenbergs said.Sunshine also lured students outside when it comes time to study.Ill grab a beach towel and get something to drink and go outside and layin the grass to do my homework. It is too beautiful to stay in, and itscalming, sophomore Kari Stevenson said.Still, some prefered the comfort of their own home over the outdoors.I usually lie in the middle of my living room floor when I study because Ijust have this thing about sitting up when I study. I cant stand sitting upwhen I study for some reason, and the living room floor is the perfect placeto study, senior Lesley Weaver said.Aside from location itself, some people favored certain clothing items orhave a special piece of furniture they prefer to study in. With a little musicand comfy clothes, they can turn the bedroom into a virtual study den.I put on sweats and my special flip flops and turn off all of the lights, but my lamp stand. Then, I turn on some classical music, sit in my leatherchair and study my head off, senior Adam Eades said. Some people retreated to the peaceful child-sized tables in the childrenssection at Borders bookstore, others the chairs under big bay windows atthe Public Library, and still others prefer to study at the painted tables ofCafe Django with a large cup of steaming coffee. So no matter how bizarre orremote the place you choose to study is, you can be sure you are not alonein your decision.Does it have games?...is the phrase often heard when a graphing calculatoris pulled out. Here, students share some of their favorites.Turbo Breakout, because itsbetter than listening to my teachersin class and it seems to keep myinterest more than any of the othergames I have.— sophomore Courtney Layman* It would have to be Tetris. Younever really get bored of that game, each time you play is a newchallenge.— junior Emily EllsworthNibbles, because Im fightingwith one of my friends over who hasthe highest score in it. But ofcourse, I have it. Im better at itthan he is.— junior Tony DanielsI like Falldown best because ithas the most action out of all thegames ... its just really fun.— sophomore Josh McBrideQuotes collected by Pete HallbackpackBooks and notes open before them, sophomores Kevin Prall and RyanMcElhinney study for a geography test.Students choices in studying locationsvaried from typical to very unique.Matt VlasmanMrs. Angela Berzins, fine arts, speaks about how tomake homemade paper as senior Meredith Hash, junior Jessica McGlocklin, sophomore Katy Baker andjuniors Aimee Blunk and Sandy Baker look on.
