Description: Up the HillGirls cross country team uses youth and desireto place 14th at State finals ~by Andrew RemakCompeting in theconference tournament,freshman Jaime Mathias outran the rest of ConferenceIndiana to finish first with atime of 15:55.Since I usually start outslow, and finish strong, Ididnt really have a plan. I juststarted running and I wasnttired at all, and somehow Iwas up at the front in theend, Mathias said.Senior Rachel Shiffrin tookthe leadership role for thesquad and in return was votedcaptain of the team.Rachel was verysupportive of everyone andpushed us to do our best evenwhen she wasnt running. Shewas friends with everyone, andthat made everyone respecther, sophomore MarianneLloyd said.Before each meet, the girlswould yell, LMCC ... Lets GoSouth. The phrase LMCCstands for something that onlythe team knows, and it is kepta secret.That saying (LMCC) hasbeen around for a few years,and we do the same thingbefore each meet. It gets uspsyched up for the race,senior Anna Conkle said.During their stay at a hotelbefore the ManchesterInvitaional, they all gather inone room at night and sharetheir feelings about the seasonand cross country in general.I like this traditionbecause it lets me know wheremy teammates stand on theteam, and why they decided torun.
