Mystery commercials andposters at the end of last year left everyonepuzzled and wondering about the meaningof Renaissance, the word that spread aroundthe school like wildfire. Finally, the beginning ofthe 2001-2002 school year delivered the answer,and the students learned that the mysteriouscatchword was the name of a program meaningto support excellence in education.The program rewarded academic excellenceand improvement. Following each trimester,students grades and attendance were evaluatedto determine the color of card they would receive.These cards, which ranged from white (2.5 GPA)to Gold Plus (4.0 and perfect attendance) entitledstudents to discounts at popular restaurants,tanning salons, and miscellaneous stores.Students also earned cards for significantimprovements in their grades.The goal is for all students to have theopportunity to be recognized, senior Katy Bakersaid. The higher the level of card, the morediscounts students received.
