Description: NEW 6APCET5Students reflect on new technologyThe newby Jeff CarterAs studentswalked into theirnewly-renovatedclassrooms, theywere greeted withnew TVsnetworked to thelibrary, digitalclocks and phonesconnected withother classrooms.In addition, five computer labsand a new innovative lunchsystem made its debut.The new technology is nice. Itmakes schoolwork and learning alot easier, junior Lindsey Kerrsaid.I especially like it when theannouncements are on the TVs.Its cool to have news clips tomake them more informative andinteresting, senior Kristen Youngsaid.Most students mainly tookadvantage of the new technologyby utilizing the computers.Its amazing how much youcan find on the new computers. Itdoesnt take as much time toresearch for projects now becauseyou find so much info on theInternet, Young said.The most interesting kind ofnew technology seemed to be theTVs hung in the corner of everyclassroom that were used to showvideo announcements and tapesfor classes.technology isnice. It makesschoolworkand learning alot easier.junior LindseyKerrI am verypleased with thesuccess of themedia retrievalsystem. There isjust lots of thingsthe teachers cando with it thatcouldnt be donewith regular TVsystems. As anexample, language arts teacherscan put two different tapes in andshow segments of each tape, Mr.Jim Shields, media, said.While the school received alarge amount of new technology,it didnt receive everything itasked for.We wish we had the threecomputers in every classroom likewe were supposed to have. Itwould be nice to get this problemtaken care of in the near future,Shields said.We hope to have personalcomputer accounts for allstudents by next fall so they willbe able to store information intheir files. Also, we hope theaccounts will let them use theInternet, Mr. Keith Clark, finearts, said.The future is now for studentsand faculty. With all the advancesin technology today, networkedTVs, clocks, phones andcomputers seem to be only thebeginning.Taking a rest beforeproceeding to his nextclass, sophomore WillChang leans against hislocker. Studentssocialized and visitedtheir lockers during six-minute passing periods.During some free timein class, senior JohnnyChan plays Zelda on hisTI-89. Many studentsprogrammed videogames onto theirgraphing calculators toplay when bored.What is your favoritekind of newtechnology?0Spread Design byacademicsRavi SoniThe TVs, definitely.
