By JeffFights HardTo repeat as Sectional Champions andsend two competitors to StateDuring the course of theseason, the team compiled adual meet record of 11 -5. All ofthe teams wins were by 12 ormore points, including twolopsided victories over cross-town rival Bloomington North. We wrestled pretty good inthe meets that we won, but inour losses we just didnt matchup very well with ouropponents. Beating North twicewas fun for us, and we workedhard for each of those wins, senior Ty Deckard said.Prior to the Sectional meet, the team members decided toshave their heads bald. A fewmembers, though, refused to getrid of all their hair and insteadjust trimmed it down.Someone on the teambrought in a clipper and we allthought it would be fun toshave our heads. (Junior)Tommy May and (senior) AaronReynolds shaved little mohawksinto their heads, butunfortunately only kept themfor one practice, junior TobyShaw said.ShowdownAt the Conference IndianaTournament the team hoped tocome away with the title, butended up in fourth place with180 points. Individualchampions were sophomoreJustin Edwards and seniors JTYoung and Ty Deckard.I thought that we couldhave done a little better atconference. But we did havesome guys who wrestled verywell for us and placed in the topthree of their weight class.Theres just a lot of good teamsin Conference Indiana, juniorTommy May said.standoutSenior JT Young andsophomore Justin Edwardsmade it to the State meet atConseco Fieldhouse inIndianapolis. Young won at 140lbs., but Edwards lost his firstround match at 130 lbs.Winning State again wasincredible for me and definitelyunexplainable. It was harder thistime because I knew I couldntwin one my junior year and failto repeat my senior year,Young said.NHBloomington North:69-6 WLawrence Central:58-13 WMartinsville: 45-22 LColumbus North: 42-30 WCenter Grove: 49-24 WGreenwood: 45-25 WCastle: 35-32 LForrest Park: 54-18 WJasper: 38-24 LMater Dei: 70-3 LBloomington North:60-12 WJennings County: 43-24 WNorth Montgomery : 54-9 WEdgewood: 45-15 WTerre Haute South: 58-16 WMartinsville: 32-24 LEast Central Indiana Classic:3rd Place2000 Berman Holiday Classic:4th PlaceAdams Central Invitational:2nd PlaceConference Indiana4th PlaceSectional:1st Place11-5Coach Royce Deckardpumps up sophomore ZacLankford during a timeoutof a match.
