I was nervousbecause it was a new school and I didnt really knowmy way around, freshman Brittney Deckard said.Several other freshmen, such as JenniferLaird, felt quite comfortable. I was nervous aboutlunch, but I was pretty comfortable with myclasses. I just tried to remember the tips that Igot at the Panther Preview about the classes beinga circle inside a circle. Also, with seven minutes[for passing periods]plenty of time,it gave mew»to get a feel forthe building and learn where theirclasses were. I think it helped everyone, andthe leaders were all very nice. If you had anykind of question they would be happy to answerit for you, freshman Jake Hyde said.Along with getting to know their way aroundthe school, the freshmen were given manymaterials to help them with the start of school. They received a South T-shirt, magnets, notebooks, folders and pens.they were sure to get lost. My first impressionwas that I was going to get lost because of howbig the front entrance was and how big thehallways were, McNeely said.Laird, on the other hand, was optimistic aboutstarting high school. I was nervous at first, but nowIm more confident and Im looking forward to thenext four years, Laird said.By Rachel AxsomFreshmen listen as Mr.Fletcher, principal, welcomesthem to BHSS at PantherPreview 2000.
