Description: wandsUMOKKOWOn June 3, 1995 three hundred and elevenstudents waited nervously outside the Indiana UniversityAuditorium, while getting thousands of pictures takenfor this once in a life time event.During the 90-minute ceremony, the soon tobe graduates knew how and when to make the crowdlaugh and when not to. Students bounced balloons andbeach balls into the air, then put them aside when theorchestra or madrigals were ready to perform. Theyhooted and hollered when their friends received theirdiplomas, then turned quiet when someone was speaking.They knew when to be silly and when to bequiet and listen, said Monroe County CommunitySchool Corporation Board President Lea Jaffee.The class of 1995 had 16 valedictorians, 13National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, 43 academichonors diploma recipients, and state championships inthe Academic Decathlon and Science Olympiad.The senior class has definitely made its markin the rich and illustrious history of Bloomington HighSchool South, principal Mike Riggle said.The opening speech was given by Jessie Mallor,which had a very intellectual side to it.The class speech was delivered by HeatherFishel with great enthusiasm. Our class has the powerto change the world and it has the diversity to show theworld how to live together happily, said Fishel.Selena Worth delivered the class charge. Herspeech brought together teachers with a little rhythm.Giving the farewell speech with greatdemonstration with balloons was Ellee Austin. Shegave life a new perspective to the students and the crowdof family and friends.Class president Danny Sipes gave a greatassurance to the 1995 graduates while turning theirtassels.Chemistry teacher Bill Lumbley read hisfavorite and traditional book, Oh, The Places YoullGo by Dr. Seuss.Before the graduates made a bee-line forShowalter Fountain, they chimed in on familiar wordswith Dr. Riggle, Remember, have pride in yourself andthe panthers.While half the class drenched themselves inthe refreshing water others cried with family and friends.To the graduates of 1995, GOOD LUCK in thefuture!
