Just didnt click..Trouble making plays in 86When the whistle wasblown and the ball was snapped, we just couldnt seem tomake it all come together,Coach Dave Enright said, summing up this years varsity football season. Our record (4-5) definitelyindicates a worse team than weactually had, the record couldhave been much better. I kepttelling the boys, we gotta playfootball but we couldnt seemto win the close games, saidEnright.Coach Enright did not creditthe defeats to a lack of preparation. As far as strength and offseason conditioning, this yearsteam was one of the best Ivehad at Bloomington South. Wealways had the physical edge.Coach Enright was mostpleased with the teams performance against IndianapolisCathedral. Although they lost,he said, This game showed thebest total team effort. Healso said that the team was mostpleased with Connersvillesreport after South beat them(31-6). Connersvilles coachsaid that he has never seen ateam hit as hard as we hit them. You cant get many compliments better than that, recalled Enright. The football team lost a bettergame to Bloomington Northduring the first round of the sectional tournament endingSouths season. Again Enrightblamed the loss on not beingable to make the plays.Enright expressed grief for theshort season because so manyof the players had spent somuch time and energy inpreparing for the season. Itshard to see boys who havegiven so much to the sport, onlyto be disappointed, saidEnright. We couldnt complainbecause of the boys effort. Wehad strong leadership and agroup of boys who were giving alot, he said.It was a tough season.Deep in thought, head coachDave Enright and assistantcoach Phil Smith contemplate aplay during the Hoosier Domegame against Martinsville.Varsity Football 83 |
