Dubinski Arrives1987 was a year ofchange for the South bandprogram because of newdirector Robert Dubinski.Dubinski, from New Jersey, has had a considerable amount of experiencein band programs, and hasworked with or played in aband most of his life.The band and orchestracombined talents this yearto form a pit orchestra forthe spring musical,Merrily We Roll Along.Freshman Stacey Ryser,who ordinarily plays withthe orchestra, said, It wasa lot of fun to be able towork with the band aswell. Theorchestra held bake sales,car washes, a bowl-a-thon,and sold fruitcakes tomake money to purchasenew instruments and newuniforms. Pep band member Julie Burke said otherfund raisers provided aneeded opportunity toraise money for the bandprogram. They also gaveus a common goal to worktogether to achieve,Burke added.Dubinski described hisfirst year at BloomingtonSouth as being very productive, as well as fun.He has high goals forbuilding an even betterprogram, based on thefoundation established thisyear.I feel that next year wehave potential to be thebest band that Bloomington South has ever had,said Dubinski. We havethe talent.
