Description: Hats off toSouth gradsThe feeling of anticipationmay have begun with the firstday of their freshman year, ormaybe with the first major exam they completed. Wheneverit began, throughout the fouryears of high school, the finalgoal seemed so far off.For 331 South seniors, however, May 23rd markedthe grand finale to that anticipation. That day was one inwhich they would look back onabout 25,920 hours of joy andgrief. They would remembercrabby teachers, forgottenhomework assignments, anddifficult tests. Ultimately, however, all those componentswould add up to the one thingthey could all anticipate ...graduation.As stated by main commencement speaker, seniorHeather Cramer, when seniorswere handed their diplomas, not only did they receive acertificate of graduation, butresponsibility as well. Shesaid this responsibility shouldbe used wisely.Cramer took seniors throughtheir four years of high schoolusing an allegory of Dick andJane, first grade readercharacters.Other senior speakers included Eric Franz and JanetEbeling who gave the invoca-tion and benediction, respectively. As seniors sat and reflectedon the past four years of theirlife and their futures, Cramerremarked This is not the end,or even the beginning of theend, but rather the opening ofa new chapter. Are they sorry to see the seniors go, orglad? Teachers Don Beaver and JoelMarsh await the reading of the names.Beaver and Marsh have traditionallybeen the readers of the graduatesnames, and this year was noexception. After four years of hard work comesthe fun. Graduate Ken Smiddie jokesaround with friends after the commencement exercises.38 Graduation
