Thats whathappens, you know.—Information fromJan. 85 Life magazine.Bands express feelingsThe Natives, BloodFarmers, andSkelagore. The namessound like titles of thelatest horror flickwhen, in reality, theyare the names of threeBloomington bands. The bands arecomposed primarily ofhigh school students, many from South. TheNatives play hardcoremusic, while Skelagoreplays a combination ofhardcore/heavy metal, and The Blood Farmersplay fast music that hasa diverse style andrhythm. There is a generalfeeling that localprofessional bands donot appeal to highschool students.Student bands havebeen organized toexpress concern overthe ways of theworld. The Natives formedin the summer of 1984,mainly out ofdissatisfaction with thelocal music scene. Thefour band members:Junior John Matthews,Chris Pheifer, ZirkBoner, and SeniorTerry Arcuri, wantedto perform a moreintense style of music.Arcuri explainedthat the bands messagewas to express thegeneral dissatisfactionwith some of the waysof the world. Suicide, drug abuse, senselessviolence, policeharrassment, war, andclosed-mindedness aresome of the thingswere against. The Blood Farmers, also formed in 1984,consists of senior HarryBurgan, Andy Mayer, and Eric and DavidFourtney.Burgan said TheBlood Farmers musichas no main theme. He said, Were justtrying to make our ownmusic . . . have our ownstuff. Were trying tobe original.Skelagore, formallyKilling Children, changed their namebecause they modifiedtheir music. The bandmembers, ScottColburn, DavidFourtney, and seniorJohn Strohm, hope fora summer tour.Killing Children changed thebands name to Skelagore.Student Life 29
