a^AVS providesmany coursesfor studentsThe Area Vocational School offers manycourses for area students.According to AVS director ElizabethWampler, the 1982-83 enrollment was approximately 400 students from four counties: Greene, Monroe, Morgan, and Owen.Courses offered ranged from agribusiness to cosmetology. Some of the AVSclasses worked on community services,such as banquets, child care, andautomobile servicing and repair.Each AVS course meets for three hoursdaily for two school years.Vocational classes give on-the-job training as well as academic training. They alsogive students an edge on getting jobs thatneed trained people with practicalexperience.The vocational school also has many activities such as athletics. In 1982-83 eachschool represented in the AVS had a team,and the teams competed against oneanother in different sports.60 Area Vocational School |
