South students are making themost of their high school days; theyre living it up!The long, lazy days of summer were filledwith many activities. Students spent timeswimming, sailing, and hydrosliding. ManySouth students left Bloomington to explorethe United States. Others left the country tolearn about the different people and cultures of our world. Some spent their summers learning to better themselves andSouth at camps and institutes.Outstanding students are recognized bythree honor clubs at South. Quill and Scrollis for outstanding journalists; NationalHonor Society, for those who excel in academics; and Thespians, for student dramatists.Several clubs are open to all students.Fellowship of Christian Athletes helps tobring Christ into the lives of its members.Junior Achievement teaches students aboutrunning businesses and gives them practical experience. Future Homemakers ofAmerica helps students through home economics realize their places in society.Through the business clubs studentslearned more about the business world outside school. These clubs supplied practicalknowledge and helped the students applythis knowledge through on-the-job training.Members of Theatre South producedthree plays for the entertainment of thecommunity—The Miracle Worker in the falland Godspelland Plaza Suite in the spring.The band helped to raise the spirits of thecrowd during half-time at football and basketball games. Led by new director KemHawkins, the band earned a Class A first-division rating in the Indiana State MusicAssociation contest.Together the Pompettes and cheerleaders worked for a common goal—to makethis year the most enthusiastic ever. Bothgroups helped raise school spirit to a newhigh.Student Life Division 17 |
