Description: ■MHOTHNEDays filled with many different activities—vacationing, swimming, sailing, hydro-sliding . . . just plain having fun—summer.Many students visited foreign countriesduring the summer. A group of South students visited Mexico in July. Senior PatSmith was impressed with the crowds. Itwas very crowded; there were people everywhere, she noted. Among other countriesvisited by students were Egypt, England,Germany, Holland, Japan, Rumania, andScotland.Some students spent a portion of theirsummer showing concern for others. SheilaPark and Cathy Wilhelm learned about andhelped migrant workers, while othershelped improve the town of Frackes, Ky.;visited the Black Bay Missions in Missouri;and did various forms of volunteer work atBloomington Hospital.Greg Gaither, Kevin King, and Dave Volzparticipated in the National Junior Olympicsin the decathlon, discus, and pole vault,respectively.A major motion picture, Breaking Away,was filmed in Bloomington during the summer.
