Description: run Menczer, run! Making great time, MaxMenczer, 12, crosses the finish line atHoosiers Outrun Cancer on September 30th,2017. Menczer was the first of Team North tocross the finish line of the 5k run in justeighteen minutes and fifty-one seconds!Junior Jessica Miller is one of a handful of students at North who havehad cancer. She was diagnosed with Nephroblastoma, or Wilms Tumor,which is a type of cancer that affects the kidneys of people when theyrebabies.I was actually born with it, Miller said. [The tumor] was removed sevenmonths after they found it. It was about the size of a fist and rock solid.After six months of treatment, Miller was cancer free. But she still goes toRiley Hospital for Children every two years for a checkup and participates inthe HOC 5k walk/run every year.I run because it supports the fact that its actually helping a lot of people,said Miller. I also love to see all the cancer patients/survivors. I decided to speak topeople because its something that has affected mepersonally in my family, Rogers said. I think a lot ofpeople get scared talking about Cancer, but I took itas an opportunity to change that and showeveryone that its not going away.
