Knocked OutStory by Anam Faruki and Atiqah KhidhirLooking forward to her last year in golf and soccer, senior Kavita Patel did not realize that she wouldbe knocked out for the rest of the season. Havingplayed golf and soccer since her freshmen yearfor North, this season did not wrap up with a happyending for either sport, instead with a great lessonto be learned.During a soccer game this season, Patel waskicked in the eye by a defender. She recalls beingtaken out to be examined and told she may have aconcussion and should sit out for a couple ofgames. However her love for soccer urged Patelto play in the next game.I just love the game so much, Patel said. It issuch an exhilarating feeling to fly down the soccerfield along with your teammates.During the second game, Patel headed off a puntand fell to the ground unconscious. Patel had tosit out for the rest of the soccer season and missedout on golf tournaments. That was the beginningof what was the last chance for her to defend herConference Indiana Girls Individual Medalistsfor golf.Coach Brian Meulhaus said it is unfortunatePatel could not play as much this season but theteam did well nonetheless. Although Patel helpedher team she shares a similar opinion.I think our team is very strong on their own,Patel said. And although I helped them at times, they are a great group of girls, and they are allplaying well and improving on their game of golf.Although Patel was upset she missed out heronly chance to defend her individual medalist, she said she enjoyed the time she spent with theteam and coach. However, her most-cherishedmemories of golf happen to be the times she spentwith her sister.I think the fondest memories would haveto be playing golf with my sister, spending timewith her on the golf course, through the golfteam helped me know her as a differentperson, Patel said.Even though Kavita played a big role in the team,we had to pull out as a team during sectional andregional without her.-Sophomore Kelsey JeanJunior Annie Walters discussesrules, introductions, identifies golfballs, and exchanges scorecardswith the Starter Doak Henry andthe girls from Center Grove andMartinsville for the September2005 Indiana High SchoolAthlectic Association Sectionals. The North girls ranked secondfollowing Martinsville at first.Atiqah Khidhir58 Girls Golf |
