Andrew BrownAndrew Brown has rhythm. Although musicentered his life because his mother forced him totake piano lessons in second grade, it turned out thatmusic would hold greatimportance and pleasure in his life. Afterswitching from piano tosaxophone to percussion, he realized in sixthgrade that percussionwas his first love in music. When asked whohas been influential inhis musical life, Andrewhad a long list: All of myteachers at Berkeley-College of Music, JamsStockhouse, ScottSchleuter, Jim Bailey,Jeremy Strawn, Mike Bennett, my parents, and KirkHamilton. Throughout Andrews years at North, hehas not only excelled in music in the eyes of the Northfaculty and students, but has been honored for hisabilities at numerous competitions. He has wonOutstanding Musicianship and Soloist awards at BallState, Purdue, Bloomington, and Eu Claire, and washonored by being a part of the All-State Marimba/Percussion Ensemble. However, just listing theseawards do not do Andrews talent justice. He hasbeen the beat of the symphonic, marching, and jazzband all his years, and has kept every piece playedby North musicians in time. He will attend the IUSchool of Music and will major in Jazz Studies andComputer Science. Andrew will continue to share hisgift of music by teaching lessons and playing in localgigs.Laith ShaabanLaith Shaaban never imagined himself becoming anexcellent euphonium and bass trombone player whenhe first became interested in music. In fact, the major reason Laithfirst joined the bandwas because hestarted hanging outwith good musicianshis freshman year. Interestingly enough,Laith has developedinto a superb musician, sitting first chair eupho-nium in symphonicband for two years, picking up the basstrombone to play in Jazz 1, and winning many honorssuch as being invited to play in the John Phillip SousaNational honor band. Apparently, his interest in musicreached beyond the friendships he formed throughmusic, because he developed into such an excellentmusician that he was also a part of the All-State HonorsBand and the IMEA Honors Band. Laith credits Ms.Stockhouse, Scott Schleuter, John Morse and DanielPerantoni for contributing to his musical interests, andhe feels like all of them have been quite influentialthroughout his years in music. Laith has grown to lovemusic so much that he has decided to major in musiceducation and either teach or get involved in the recording industry. With all these accomplishments, weresure Laith will do just fine in the music world.Alice WiegandAfter hearing the high school orchestras play at her elementary school in thefifth grade, Alice was motivated to begin playing the violin. Since that time, she tooksix years of violin lessons from one of the most influential people in her life, Mr. Neal, and Alice has learned to play the guitar. Alice also has many fond memories of musicin her life, and one which she experienced during high school sticks out in her mind:playing Eat Steak by the Reverend Horton Heat with Kerry McKeen at a HeeHawshow this year! Alice is not only an excellent musician, but she also has a very sweetdisposition which is enjoyable to be around. In the future, Alice is not exactly sureabout specific musical career, but she would enjoy continuing to play in a communityorchestra. Keep your ears open for the sound of a sweet violin played by a sweet girl.iZ3 |
