Description: ^^^^^^^^™^—■*■Chipping Out and Putting InCougar linksters sectional champs, third in regionals, and statecontenders.The 1977 Cougar Golf Team had oneof the most successful seasons in thehistory of Bloomington North. The Cougars linksters finished their tough schedule with a 20-0 record, both losses coming from Bedford North-Lawarance. Inthe regular season the team lowered theschool record by six strokes, from 303 to297, achieving that total twice during theyear. Individually, Doug Nugent (77) setnew home and away records, including aone under par 70 on nearby CascadesGolf Course.For the first time in Norths existencethe team of Bruce Bowen, Tim Dixon,Brad Kale, Jim Helton (77) and DougNugent (77) placed first in sectional play,16 golfsweeping the trophy away from favoriteBedford North-Lawerance. A third placefinish in the regionals advanced the linksters to the state championship meet forthe third time in four years. The only disappointment during the season came inthe state meet when the Cougars finished eighteenth after ranking amongthe states top teams the previous year.A fine group of returnees make thegolf season outlook a bright one. Thechallenge for this seasons team will beto equal or surpass the accomplishmentsof the 1977 team. Teeing it up for theirfinal season will be three-year lettermanTim Dixon, two-year letterman Brad Kale,and one-year letterman Bruce Bowen.These three young men, all with substantial tournament experience, are expectedto form the nucleus of another strongCougar golf team. Jerry Conyer, also aletterman, and Jeff Stoia are other seniors who will be playing for North. Juniors Terry Nugent and Dave Corso, andsophomore Jeff Riggs head a group ofunderclassmen who are expected topush for varsity spots. Juniors DanBauer, Don North, Paul Barker, ScottGray, Sophomore Morgan Reardon, andsome very promising freshmen give anoptimistic future to the Cougar golf program.After hard work and determination senior TimDixon finally scores a hole in one?!Senior Bruce Bowen putts under pressure againstEvansville North.Senior Tim Dixon lines up his birdie putt in regionalplay.
