A.THE Young Womens Christian Association of Bloom-ington High School was organized during the schoolyear of 1903-04 by the Young Womens ChristianAssociation of Indiana University. The three-foldpurpose of the Association is: to strengthen and develop thelives of the girls physically, socially and spiritually, and agreat deal has been accomplished toward this end.At present there is a membership of ninety-six, whichshows an increase of thirty over last year. Last summer,Irene Howe was sent as a delegate to the summer conferenceof the Y. W. C. A., held at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. TheAssociation was greatly strengthened by her interesting report.There have been about twenty-five enrolled in the Bibleclass, during the year 1908-09. Miss Lind, of Indiana Uni-versity, taught the Bible class, but its success has been due toa great extent to the efficient work of the Bible class chairman.Weekly meetings have been held in various manners: some-times being thrown open to the girls themselves, discussingvital questions of their school life. At other meetings outsidespeakers addressed the organization. Some of the speakers forthe last year have been: Miss Wilbur of New York, NationalSecretary of the Young Womens Christian Association; MissMarjory Melcher of Indianapolis, State Secretary of the Y. W.C. A.; Miss Elizabeth Wheeler of Boston, Secretary at IndianaUniversity; Miss Caroline Dayton of Minneapolis, member ofthe Minnesota State Committee, and Rev. Thos. R. White ofthe First Presbyterian Church of Bloomington.The members of the cabinet for the year 1908-09 are:Irene Howe, President; Zelpha Shields, Vice-President; Mar-jory Campbell, Bible Study Chairman; Helen Beck, SocialChairman; Temple Bradford, Secretary, and Ardys Cheno-weth, Treasurer.60
