CAROLE DUNLAP-FrenchJUDY MORROW-Spanish, historyof Latin AmericaStudents Use New Listening StationsCorrect pronunciation and oral speech were twoskills emphasized in first-year language courses. Insecond-year language study, reading and writingwere added to the curriculum. Third and fourth-year language classes tried to eliminate the use ofEnglish from their classes.In addition to the language lab, German students used the listening stations installed aroundtheir room. The listening station is a system withwhich students listen to specially prepared tapeswithout responding to them. These units were installed by students working in the vocational areaat BSHS.The advanced French classes read Le Petit Prince,by Saint-Exupery. Students sang popular and traditional French songs and played French games,in order to create an added interest in the language.During the summer of 1968, second year Spanish students planned a three-week trip to Mexico.These students tried their hands at bargaining inthe markets, ordering meals, talking with Mexicanstudents and trying to live as the Mexicans do.LATINO^sLATIN LIVES TODAY WAS THE THEME of the projectsmade by the first year Latin students.48 |
