Description: |
years. Time, wear, and an ever-increasing enrollment have deemed it necessary to construct a newBloomington Senior High School. This campus willsoon be known as Central Junior High School. Theclass of 65 will be the last to graduate from 101West Second Street. When you move to South Walnut Street nextfall, you will leave behind many of the traditionsand idiosyncrasies every school develops. Therewill be no more facefuls of water from the fountain near room 410 on the fourth floor, no morespring floods in the basement, and no more con-vos in the auditorium where we had to check tosee if the seat we sat in was safe. We will neveragain see the Panthers fight on Mumby Field, nordance after the games in the Girls Gym. HonorDay will not be interrupted by the eleven oclocktrain. All except the faculty, students, and spiritwill remain behind.Heres to the teachers, administrators, and allwho have made Bloomington High School theinstitution of learning it is today. Heres to thepresent building ending fifty years as a highschool, and the Seminary for its 111 years ofservice. Heres to the students who have givenB.H.S. the traditions and spirit so important to aschool. Heres to you our dear old B.H.S.Jessie Ellis, who wrote the following poem in1913 telling of the greatness of the new building, might have written the piece for 1965.Remaining behind on its stand at the head of the front stepswhen the senior high moves, will be the most familiar sight atBHS, Winged Victory. Our New BuildingIts walls are made of choicest stone,Its roof is made of slate. The steps are wide and beautiful,The grandest in the state.Inside are seen such broad vast roomsAs neer wre known before,And these are lined with monstrous booksFrom ceiling to the floor. And O, throughout its many parts,There is a wondrous spellThat causes students all to wishForever there to dwell. And spend their time in reading plays,That furnish wisdom rare,And give them all scholastic looksIn class or anywhere. What! You wish to see this thingWhose like youve never met? Why, thats our future high school, butWe havent got it yet.II |
