Chess has often been considered a game for people of standing and intellect; our view is that it provokes thought andmay be enjoyed by everyone. The primary aim, developinginterest and knowledge of the intricate game of chess inaddition to increasing the foresight and logic of our members, was held to be of utmost importance. This past year around-robin tournament was used for temporary seating. Thiswas followed by an elimination tournament for permanentseating. After this, the top five players were subjected to aseries of challenge matches to further establish their playingpositions. Under the guidance of the clubs officers, most ofthe members soon developed considerable skill at chess. Themembership of the club was exceptional considering the recent inception of the organization. At the first meeting theofficers were elected, and a constitution was revised andratified. Bob Norman was elected president and Bob Brown,vice-president. Gordon Whitaker and Phil Bryant were electedsecretary and treasurer, respectively.
