Description: Basketball AccountAfter having two losing seasons, the B.H.S.basketballers came on strong at the last of theseason to end up with a 11-10 record. ThePanthers started slow and did not hit their strideuntil the middle of the season.The Purple opened their season by playinghost to Evansville Bosse at the Second StreetGym. The B.H.S. boys didnt lead until the final12 seconds, but closed with a 63-61 win.Next the Panthers cooled off to lose twogames in a row. In the first game, Coach KeithRhoades boys were bested by Jeffersonville, 55-48. The Purple Panthers could not find the rangein their next game with Brazil, losing by ascore of 52-50.The team then returned home for a gamewith Terre Haute Wiley and bested the RedStreaks by a score of 74-47. The Panthers inthis game had a sizzling .533 field goal average.In the next game, the B.H.S. boys lost a heart-breaker to the Columbus Bulldogs by a scoreof 65-64.The score was tied after three stops in thenext game with Jasper, but the Wildcats wentall out to win by 52-37. In the next game, B.H.S.dropped another close battle to arch-rival Bedford, 62-61.The Panthers broke loose in the last half ofthe game with cross-town rival University Schoolto down the East-Siders by a score of 62-44. ThePurple were up for this civil war battle anddisplayed a fine defense in the one-sided tilt.In the next game the B.H.S. boys pulled themost surprising upset of their season at Princeton, 41-39. The Panthers were the only team todefeat the Tigers during the regular season.After losing to Evansville Central, 75-60, thePurple got back on the winning road at theexpense of Boonville by a score of 62-54. Theteam led the full game to crush Martinsville74-72. The Panthers earned this victory on sensational shooting and nifty rebounding.The Panthers were not quite so fortunate intheir next encounter with Hammond High, bowing by the score of 73-58. The Purple reversedtheir defeat of the night before at expense ofthe Vincennes Alices, 71-64, to even their seasonmark at 7-7. After a loss to Terre Haute Garfield,Coach Keith Rhoades Bloomington Panthers, although cold at the charity stripe, won over theWashington Hatchets to the tune of a 62-51victory.Avenging an early-season loss, the Pantherteam displayed much balance in downing theBedford Stone Cutters 61-56.
