The MixedChoir consists of sixty boys and girls of highschool age. To become a member of this group,students must try out before Mr. Harry Henderson, the director, when tryouts are called eachsemester. Many more students try out than canbe accepted, due to the fact that the music department owns only sixty choir robes.This year the Mixed Choir participated in theannual Christmas Convo on December 21, andon December 16, they participated in the evening Christmas program. They also participatedMADRIGAL SINGERSAt the piano—Harold Wolfe. Standing—Bennie Wright. BillSciscoe, Frances Ramsey, Gloria Branam. Donna Skinner,June Crandall. Norma Dixon. Dick Tardy, David Bales.in the district Choral Festival and the SpringChoral Festival. The officers for this year wereGloria Branam, president; Donna Skinner, secretary; and Allene Chandler and Norma Dixon,librarians.The Madrigal Singers consisted of five girlsand four boys. The Madrigals were first organized in 1951 by Miss Helen Schwend, who wasthen the director. Madrigal Singers were themode of entertainment in medieval times andsang unaccompanied or a cappella music. Theyare sometimes referred to as the public relationsgroup of B.H.S. because they represent theschool in almost everything they do. The Madrigal group was more active this year than it hasbeen in the past. During the fall of this yearthey appeared before the Rotary Club and atthe State Teachers Association. During theChristmas season the Madrigals were quiteactive. Their first appearance was for the A.C.E.group on December 8. Their other engagementsduring the season were for the Curry Buick dinner, Butler University, and the I Hear AmericaSinging program at B.H.S. Two days beforeChristmas vacation, the Madrigal Singers wentcaroling through the halls of B. H. S. This wasone of the few chances the student body had tohear the Madrigals. Some of the numbers theysang for these programs were Jesu Joy of MansDesiring, Carol of the Bells, The Holly andIvy, Yule Log, Ding Dong Merrily on High,Hush Three, I Hear Along Our Street, andI Heard the Bells on Christmas Dav, in whichDonna Skinner sang a solo. Frances Ramsey andDavid Bales sang O Holy Night as a duet.During the Spring of the year they gave manymore performances.
