The senior orchestra is open to anystudent who plays a musical instrument andwho is interested in adding to his musical knowledge and abilities. Activities for the year rangedfrom performances at the Spring Festival andintermission of the senior class play, to severalformal and informal pop concerts presentedfor the parents. Officers elected for the seniorhigh orchestra for the year 1955-56 were JohnThomas, president; Loretta Purcell, vice-president; Nancy Taylor, secretary; and Ann Souders,treasurer.This year the Junior String Orchestra wasdivided into seventh and eighth grade groups.The seventh grade met on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while the eighth grade meton Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Junior StringOrchestra is a training organization for thehigh school orchestra. Only after much practicing and hard work are they able to pass therigid requirements for entrance into the highschool orchestra. Main activities for the yearconsisted of their participation in the SpringFestival and several informal pop concerts forthe parents. Officers for the seventh grade groupwere Barbara Badertsher, president; Sherry De-Ford, vice-president; Joan Chatfield, secretary;and Judy Sargent, treasurer. Both groups aredirected by Mr. Donald Neal.The C band of Bloomington High School isprimarily a training organization for membership in the B band, which in turn feeds theA band. It represents mostly the seventh andeighth grades. Since the majority of the studentsare in their first year in instrumental music, thereis a need for hard work. Officers for the Cband were Ronnie Burkhart, president; LarryNewton, vice-president; James Dodd, secretary-treasurer; and Mike Lemon, librarian. The director is Mr. Edgar L.
