Drills and fundamentaThe second street playground was turned into apractice football field for the JUNIOR HIGHFOOTBALL TEAM during the regular football season this year.The main objective of a program such as this isto provide a training experience for junior high boys.Mr. Marvin Groh, coach, explained that the AthleticDepartment was primarily interested in fundamentalsand drills for boys of this age rather than regularcompetition.The profit of this program is realized when boysmake the varsity team at younger ages.The EIGHTH GRADE BASKETBALL TEAMalong its regular season had a record of ten wins andsix losses. The SEVENTH GRADE TEAM recordedthree wins and one loss.Unlike the other junior high sports the basketballteams have a regular season and play in regularcompetition.Coach Ray Anderson had to limit his team tothirty boys who composed both the seventh andeighth grade teams.One of the most thrilling games of the season wasthe contest between Columbus and the B. H. S.Eighth Grade Team. Jim Sylvester made a basketwhile lying on the floor which helped the Pantherscome out on the winning end of a 29-28 final score.Junior Football.
