Description: Future Farmers Distributive Education ClubHard-working is a term often applied tomembers of Future Farmers of America. TheseSons-of-the-soil are learning how to manageand work a prosperous farm more efficientlyand profitably under the direction of Mr. JustinGraves.The fruits of this knowledge have shown upin local, state, and even national prizes andawards which have been won by members of theBloomington Chapter of the F.F.A. Tom Leach,Senior, was a member of the Poultry and EggJudging Team which won first place in National competition. But all is not work. TheF.F.A. engages also in social functions and various forms of recreation such as their entry inthe High School Basketball League.To be a member of the F.F.A., the studentmust be a member of the vocational agricultureclass and must be carrying out some farm project. Each fall an exhibit of the boys projectsis held, with a silver cup going to the membermaking the best exhibit.The Bloomington Chapter of the DistributiveEducation Clubs was host to the third annualState Conference held at the I.U. Student Building in January. Jim Gray was elected vice-president of the state organization of Distributive Education Clubs of Indiana. Seven otherB.H.S. members attended the National Convention at Ashville, North Carolina. The club alsojourneyed to Indianapolis and visited variousretail stores and warehouses.While discussing and planning window displays, the group invited Mr- Val Mikesell, adviserfor window decoration, to give suggestions,after which the club arranged a window displayat Walters Furniture Store and The KingsShop.Each year the club holds a banquet for members and their employers to show their appreciation for training the students during the year.This club is under the sponsorship of Mr. V.
