Description: CHRISTMAS PAGEANTThe Christmas Pageant was put on by the JuniorDramatic Club a few days before Christmas. We believeit is a very good thing to have a Christmas production ofsome sort every year and we feel that this years performanceranked well with those of former years. The play given was The Greatest Gift. The story-centers around the Hall family; Mrs. Hall, Martha Temples: Mary Hall, Velda Hazel: the little sister, WilmaBorland; the little brothers, Ned Wood and John HenryStout. The happiness and contentedness of the poverty-stricken household is very touching and the childrens devotion to their mother earns for them their Christmas reward. A benevolent old gentleman, Guy Burnett, seeingthem looking wistfully at the toy-filled windows buys thelonged-for toys and secretly deposits them on the kitchentable while the mother is at her neighbors house makingclothespin dolls. Jovce Myers played very well as the kindneighbor. The children dream sacredly beautiful dreams which were represented by tableauxat the back of the stage and then awake in the morning to find the treasured toys and a happymother wishing them a Merry Christmas. They wonder at their wonderful dreams and decidethey are the greatest gifts of all.The first scene showed a section of a street lined with shops and street-vendors of diversdescription. There are people passing up and down and a very pompous policeman—WilliamErnest Holland—is patroling the sidewalks. The whole scene was very well carried out and itdeserves special praise. The sacred tableaux were also beautifully done and in all the play was put on verysuccessfully.Page Eighty-seven
