Aurora Alternative High School, The Phoenix, 2000, Page 23

Description: This year we got a lot of new kids in ourschool. We started to have problems within theschool with new kids as well as old. Feelingthat we needed some guidance aside from thecontract, Chuck came up with a list of principles that we need to keep in mind through theschool year. In September we voted on the tenwe thought were most important. These were:COMMUNICATIONHUMORCOMPASSIONPATIENCERESPECTKINDNESSHONESTYRESPONSIBILITYUNITYPARTICIPATIONThe teachers each picked a student fromtheir family group who they thought would be agood participant and formed a respect group. There were five students chosen for the respect group: Carrie Farnsworth, ThomasHerbin, Alicia Strickling, Clarence Knapp, andAshley McCammon. We met and decided tohave an intensive day to talk about these issues. We each picked two issues to talk aboutwith our group.I picked respect and participation. I gotupset because someone said we always talkand don’t end up getting anything accomplished, which is halfway true. Nothing everactually seems to happen but at least it getssome people thinking. Basically what theywere saying was that if someone is going tofollow the “commandments” they will, and ifthey won’t they won’t. I disagree. I think we atleast faced the issues by doing this intensiveBy: Carrie Farnsworthand Alicia StricklingCarrie Farnsworth exercises another one of herimportant roles at Aurora-creating surveys foryearbook class.Ten Commandments23
