Correspondence, speeches, and other documents sent to and from Will H. Hays during the 1920s. Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains daily reports to Hays, letters regarding insurance companies and farm holdings, a memo discussing several different reports, a memo related to theater labor matters and the American Federation of Musicians, a letter discussing new hires and a departmental budget increase due to having more Code related work, letters from the Federal Radio Commission about the allotment of radio facilities given to each state and television licenses, and a long letter discussing the need to have an organization that can control the publicity coming out of Hollywood. It also includes correspondence about Hays family trip to Wyoming, Gillespie Auto Laundry System, and job requests and recommendations. |
