Harris-Harris letter

Description: Letter from John Harold Harris (1916-1987) to his wife Alice Clair Honan (1920-1986), his daughter Susan Lou Harris (1943-2008), and his mother Della B. Fear (1888-1974). Harris served as a U.S. Army cook in the Pacific Theatre.
March 8, 1944Dear Alice, Susan & Mother, The band played when we left but we arrived here they said welcome with 2 needles. Yes, I guess the shots have started again. I’ll be so immune that the lice won’t even stay on me. I’m in a very nice place. I don’t like it as well as Fort Ord but won’t have to stay here long enough to matter. Haven’t received any mail from you yet but it will catch up with me sooner or later. I found one hair on my head over a ½ but I’m keeping it combed down so none of the officers will see it. I wish you could see my head. It is something like Ish Kabibbles only my hair is shorter. I feel fine (only the right arm) we have some things that have to be done very soon so I think I’ll lie down & rest for a minute. All my love, Harold & censor
