Description: |
Maennerchor Hall, designed by Adolph Scherrer, was located at the north west corner of Illinois and Michigan Streets in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Maennerchor, a German singing club, moved from its old building on Washington Street into their new hall in 1907. In 1918, due to anti-German sentiment brought on by World War I, Maennerchor Hall was renamed the Academy of Music. A lack of funding forced the Maennerchor to give up their building in the 1930s. In 1946, Indiana University purchased Maennerchor Hall and used it as a law school until 1970. Maennerchor Hall was demolished in 1974. |
