The Commercial Club was founded in 1890 by the citys leading businessmen including Eli Lilly, who served as the Clubs first president. The goals of the Commercial Club were to create a mens club and to promote civic improvements. Around 1890, the Club also constructed its building, once located at 30 South Meridian Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Columbia Club later became the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce and moved into the Chamber of Commerce building in the 1920s. This photograph shows the buildings entrance on Meridian Street and some of the businesses that occupied it at the time including railroad, insurance, and law offices. |
