This photograph depicts the interior of the Kahn Building, constructed in 1915, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Kahn Building, designed by Vonnegut & Bohn, is located at 7 North Meridian Street near Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. The building was created for the Kahn Tailoring Company and used as a retail store for the business. Kahn Tailoring was founded in 1886 by Henry Kahn. The business began as a small tailor shop and, by the 1910s, expanded into the ten-story building on North Meridian and a large production plant located at 800 North Capitol Avenue. Kahn Tailoring made suits for men and women and were a major manufacturer of military uniforms for the United States during World War I and World War II. In 1954, Kahn Tailoring merged with Globe Tailoring of Cincinnati. Today, the Kahn Building serves as commericial space for several businesses. |
