In January of 1937 Thelma Dickerson was a 28 year-old housewife and mother of a young son living on the corner of Stansifer Ave. and Clark Blvd. in Clarksville, Ind. In this audio interview she talks about her experiences during the 1937 Ohio River flood, thinking the river would never reach as high as her house, leaving her house as the flood waters slowly rose, moving to shelter in the George Rogers Clark School along with 300 other people, and the aftermath of the flood. The interview was conducted by Stephen Day of the Jeffersonville (Ind.) Township Public Library on August 10, 1983. |
