Furness Home, Furnessville

Description: The library of the E.L. Furness residence, which still stands near U.S. Highway 20 in Furnessville, is seen above. Constructed in 1881 of local brick, the Federal-style 12-room home featured a well-stocked library. The round, wooden openings visible on the walls were part of a system designed to circulate cool air from the basement of the home. The sewing chair in the foreground was donated to the Westchester Township History Museum.
