Description: |
Herbert Bucklen built the Bucklen Opera House on the northwest corner of Main and Harrison Streets in 1884. Houdini and John Philip Sousa were among the acts that appeared there in its glory days. Later known simply as Bucklen Theater, it screened movies from 1896 until 1956. A ballet school and Elkhart Symphony Orchestra also used the building before it was demolished in 1986 and replaced by a parking lot. |
