Elkhart Bristol Board and Paper Company

Description: The Elkhart Bristol Board and Paper Company was established by H.A. Metzger and Cyrus E. Frye in 1904. It was located on the east bank of the Elkhart River at the corner of what was Foundry Ave. and E. High Street. The mill averaged 3,000 tons of product for its yearly output around 1910 producing mostly paper and board for folding box work but also colored bristol board, ticket and theatre stock, and tags. In 1916, the business was sold and became the Mengel Box Company. The property was then sold again in 1924 becoming the No. 3 mill for the American Coating Mills. In later years the site was occupied by Accra Pac-Mill Company. In 1990 many of the buildings in this area were demolished to make way for future development along the east bank of the Elkhart River.
