Description: |
The first municipal Christmas tree (shown here) was lit on December 24, 1914 in a lot off Second Street and Lexington Avenue. It was the end of a seasonal community-wide celebration of good will and charity. Since that time, the municipal Christmas tree has appeared in other locations as well. From 1963-1966 it was mounted on a steel arch across Main Street at the Franklin Street intersection. It has also stood in front of the municipal building on the northwest corner of Second and High Streets. |
