Civil War cartridge case, cap box, bayonet, belt

Description: The Civil War soldier’s essential equipment was made of leather. The cartridge box was slung over the left shoulder on a leather sling and held 40 rounds of ammunition. The brass “US” was to help weigh the flap down. The cap pouch was hung on the belt, and contained brass caps used to fire the weapons. As a weapon, the bayonet was affixed to the muzzle of the rifled musket, but could be used to help dig, cook meat over the fire, or even as a candle holder. The belt was of course worn around the waist, but wasn’t used to hold up pants. It was used to help carry equipment.
