Description: |
Indian weddings are very festive and full of gift-giving. Traditionally, the bride's parents are expected to give a dowry, or wedding gift, to the future husband's household in the form of money, jewelry, textiles, or any variety of valuable items. A box like this might have been used to carry a dowry to the house of the groom. In the past and even today in some parts of India, marriages are arranged by the families of the bride and groom. |
