Description: |
In 1963, a small turquoise toy oven appeared on toy store shelves. Selling 500,000 the first year, this light bulb toy oven was a hit! Girls wanting to imitate Mom could do so with very little supervision from adults. Mimicking changes in full size equipment, the oven changed to look more like microwave ovens in the late 1970s. In an effort to entice boys into cooking, Hasbro debuted the Queasy Bake Oven featuring recipes like Dip n’ Drool Dog Bones with foaming drool or Mud n’ Crud Cake. Made about 1980, this version features the oven’s long association with Betty Crocker. |
