Description: |
After the United States joined World War I, women with children serving in the military abroad relied upon each other for support and friendship. Late in 1917, these women formally formed the American War Mothers organization. Mothers throughout the country joined chapters of the patriotic organization. During World War II, mothers again volunteered countless hours supporting children in the service as well as civil defense projects on the home front. |
