Description: |
Crinoids were prehistoric animals that looked like flowers. Their bodies were pear shaped and covered with plates. Attached to the top of this body were feeding arms that waved in water currents to grab food particles that floated by. These particles traveled down the arms in food grooves to the mouth. At the base of the animal was the stem, which anchored the animal to the ocean floor, usually in large “forests” of these creatures. Indiana is a world renowned spot to find fossil crinoids. |
