Copal fossil

Description: This copal specimen comes from the Santander province of Colombia South America where several significant copal deposits have been discovered. Copal is fossilized sap from various Central American trees. It is commonly used for incense. The word copal comes from the Spanish word “copalli” which means incense. This material is actually very young in age being less than 1000 years old. Many copals and resin-like substances, such as frankincense and myrrh, have been used as incense.
