Letter from Lady Tilley to May Wright Sewall.

Description: Lady Tilley regrets she cannot accept the invitation to attend the reception for May Wright Sewall on the seventeenth.From New Lbrunswick, Canada, she was the first president of the Saint John Council of Women and a prominent member of the National Council of Women. Partly due to her efforts, legislation was passed in 1919 giving New Brunswick women the right to vote on the same terms as men. Her philanthropic efforts left New Brunswick with several institutions, including: Victoria Hospital, Fredericton; Chipman Memorial Hospital, St. Stephen; and Home for Consumptives, St. John. She also established a non-alchoholic Seamens Mission in St. John.
