Description: This is a digitized recording of a dictabelt, which the Indianapolis Fire Department used to record dispatch calls during the 1960s and 1970s. Following are the calls on this dictabelt: Caller asking for the number to the 5s.; Squad 17 asking for an ambulance at 1606 E. Dawson at 9:37pm.; Female caller reporting a man in a vehicle having a heart attack at 28th and Kenwood. Squad 14 dispatched at 9:44pm.; Female caller reporting a ten year old sick child. 9964 Monterey Rd. Engine 34 dispatched at 9:51pm.; Male caller reporting a woman having a seizure at 1609 Bundy Place. Squad 7 dispatched at 9:54pm.; Multiple reports of a house on fire at Pine and Fletcher. 430 S. Pine.; Female caller reporting an injured child at 1625 E. Southern. Engine 26 dispatched at 9:58pm.; Female caller wanting to ask questions about wiring. Directed to call Fire Division. 637-4033; Larry? Calling to leave a number of contact since he will be at the theater until 11pm, and then from 11-12 at the shrine club.; Deputy Chief Lumpkin? Asking for Chief Russel’s number.; Female dispatch reporting an asthmatic report of a boy at 3161 N. New Jersey, told to use caution because it is a colored bot, they are sending police to help.; 770 Indiana Ave. Car 20 calling for an Engine to come in from Indiana and West. Told to handle it like a regular fire. Then told not to use red lights.; Female caller(very distraught) requesting help because they were doing something awful by their store at 700 Indiana Avenue.; Caller asking if there was a Code 4.; Female caller reporting an injured man with a cut atery at 1812 S. Pershing. Engine 19 dispatched at 10:26pm.; Report of the Police just getting the Code 4.; Male caller reporting a problem on Indiana St. Negros were beating on him and busted out the back window of his car. Told to call the police department.; Philips called in and told the Code 4 was in effect, A-shift was supposed to report in. The Office force had not been making calls yet because they weren’t in.; Talk between Joe and Denny about getting a report.; Female caller asking if Phil Little was there, told there was no Phil Little there.; Man called from the 22s and asked about the A-shift being called in. Told to report to his task force station and let them report him in.; Task Force 16 reporting on station. Engine 6 Wagon 6 on station 13. Ford reporting on station 19.; Female caller reporting that the hydrant is on at Calhoun and Shelby street.; Engine 21 and Hose Tender 21 on station. Engine 5 Truck 5 on Station. Engine 16 staying at the 31s.; Engine 24 is at house. Asked Jim from Engine 24, if he had the report ready from their other run.; Engine 20 is on station with hose tender.; Female caller wanting to know who reported the fire at 701 N. Mitchner.; Static and broken up chatter.
